I have about $500 bucks in my FT account. I started playing there about two weeks ago with a $300 deposit, finished 2nd in a 45 player MTT and picked up close to 200 bucks. Since then, I have been grinding into nothing. I play pretty much only hold 'em. What is the best way to make money? I came in 1st in a 9 player SNG the other night that netted me about 70 bucks, but since then i havent cashed in two straight. Ive tried to play about 4 other MTT and have not cashed and I feel like its such a grind just to make a few bucks. I actually won a $30.00 tment for about 3k at Stars last year, but I feel like that was a very rare occurrence that should not be counted on. I cashed in about 25% of my tments on Stars last year with about 170 or so starts.

At any rate, do you guys think tments, sng's or cash games are the best way to make some money. Ive been playing .25/.50 NL at FT and that game is fucking brutally boring. Its the tightest thing I have ever seen. That said, I have made a profit each of the past 3 nights playing it. I burned through 30 bucks playing 2/4 limit last night and I have determined I am probably a bit too loose for that game.

What do you guys like to do? What has made you the most money? What is the best way to make a profit playing about 10-15 hours per week?

Question 2

If I cash in 25% of the MTT's I play in is that too low?

I found the best way to make money, for me, is playing people heads up. What I used to do is sit at a 5 max, lets say $25 max buy in, I play very aggressive and always try to trap. More times than not ill take the table and it will start to break, ill find a player who is on tilt and talk a little smack trying to get them to play me heads up. Sometimes you might have to play a few tables until you find someone who will be willing to play you. Once you get someone heads up on tilt at lets say $50 max buy-in and you take them you will have close to $100. They will be on tilt and buy back for $50 more, giving you a huge 2-1 chip advantage. Find someone who you know your better than, someone on tilt, and take them for all you can, then move on to the next fish. I know you can play people now heads up without going to a cash game, but usually the people signing up for heads up are better than those who don't really know what they are good at. If you make someone who isn't a heads up player mad and get them willing to play you heads up, more times than not you will take them.

Another thing Ive done that has been good to me is find people who are waiting for heads up action with $100. You buy in for $20, blinds are .25-.50 or .50-1.00. If they put you all in you only have $20 at stake, and can't really get bullied. If you double up that $20 the other player usually will keep buying in staying at $100. After a few good hands you will have $100, and be even with the other player, who will be pissed he let someone with $20 take $80 from them. Now you have to determine if your playing someone who is a good player or someone who just has money. If your playing a good player take the money and move on to someone else, if you pick up the opponent isn't very good keep playing them b/c you will have them on tilt. Ive turned $20 into almost $500 off one player before, another time I started with $10 and played someone heads up all night until they gave up, I took over $400 from him and would have taken everything if he had let me. My theory with this is the online casinos want to keep milking the rake. If you buy in for $20 and the $100 player takes you on the first hand the online casino wont make much, but if you double that $20 over and over the casino will continue to take the rake and end up making more profit. Thats just my theory, and it has proved to me to be true, the casino wants to take the rake as long as possible and if they let the $100 player bust you they wont make anything, so they let the $20 player double up to keep the game going longer to milk the rake longer. Hope all this helped in some way, BOL.

Can you multi table cash games? If so the cash games at AP/UB is where its at...You play 4 tables of .25/.50 you can clean up if u really can play 4 tables. By that i mean dont just sit there and wait for big pairs like 95% of them do...
If you never played at 1 of them get a rakeback account , with that and few bucks from the BBJ every once in awhile i think you would do great..
I dont multi table well and like you after about 75-100 hands im bored shitless....which is weird cus i fold that many hands straight in MTT's....lol

I will play 3 tments at a time without too much problem, but I am extremely tight-aggressive when I play tournaments. I am much looser in cash games, mainly because everyone else is so tight, so I am not sure how well I would be able to keep up. I normally will play two at a time and that is fine, but its still real boring.

I think I have an account at UB but I havent used it in years. I suppose that would make me ineligible for rakeback, yes? Since they are merged, a new account at AP would do me no good, correct?

Can you make a good profit from MTT tournaments? What percentage of them do you believe you need to cash in for a decent hourly rate? Ideally, I would love to make about 15 dollars an hour and I dont really care if I have to play 4-5 hours a night.

a lot of this depends on how much time you want to spend - i have a few friends who grind multi-table sng's (so like 27, 45, 90 man sit and gos)

these can be profitable with volume, and if you know good tourney strategy.

Multi's - not a good way to make 15 bucks an hour, at all.

but it is a good way to get a score if needed.

pick one though

i am good at tournies, i play way too agressive at cash games b/c i get bored and there are a ton of good cash game players out there now too.

i won like 10K last month in a few multi's, but lost like 4K at cash games, so now i only do mtt's

keep in mind - i do not "grind"
i have a full time job making 60K, so i play for fun, and for the opportunity of a nice score (few grand)

I work full-time and go to school full-time so I have a busy schedule, but I want to play poker for a couple hours a night while I am just hanging out. Right now I am playing two .25/.50 nl tables. I am going to load money into AP and try to get rakeback. I had an existing acct. at FT so no rakeback, which really sucks.

PPP...always appreciate the hand histories and it does seem like you run absolutely awful sometimes. Hang in there, man

Got down about 40 bucks tonight early playing way too lose. Fought back and ended up winning 5 dollars. Played for about 70 minutes. Not exactly what I had in mind and it was real boring, but I guess its better than being in the hole. This game takes a ton of discipline and patience

Play what you're best at and where you're the happiest.Take a break or switch it up when you start feeling lethargic. The grind can wear us all down sometimes, thats why it's called the grind.Keep Grindin.

Cash tables are more convenient. You can't leave a MTT whenever you want or table select.

You also have higher variance in MTTs.

If you play cash tables at FT, you should have rakeback. Otherwise, I don't see any value playing there on cash tables.

Definitely is all about what you feel you're strongest at. I'm sure cash games are the juiciest things around on Full Tilt but personally, I turn my best profit 8-10 tabling 1-table SNGs. Haven't done it in a while but I was turning pretty decent.

I am grinding away. I am trying to play 3 .25/.50 NL tables at a time for one hour sessions and then taking a break. Ive been grinding out about 40 bucks a night for the past week and got myself up around 200 bucks. Its not much, but I can beat this thing slowly

Kid- I wouldn't recommend 50NL with that bankroll. If you aren't getting rake back at FTP then go to rakebackpros.com and they can still get you signed up for rakeback. I would stick with SNG's...seems to be where the money is at. Grind the 18 player sng's and 27 player sngs. A lot of dead money in those things. I have been making a consistent living grinding 5 to 9 sit n go's at a time while trying to build my bankroll to convert back to cash. If you have any questions just shoot me a msg.

I see your in MI as well. Good to know other people in the MI poker community.

anyone have any reason NOT to use rakebackpros? think ill sign up there tonight if not

the 27's are my bread and butter also. just wish they had sychronized breaks like the 90's and 180's.

i dont know how you guys do so many tables at once. i can do 3 easy, 4-5 i start having problems. the problem is i cant manipulate my bet timing/pattern as well to make the rest of table become puppets. decision making is easy. 3secs max id guess. but i make a lot of money off the ole "quick click check followed by the check-raise" or the "timer count down to call preflop with ace-ace that results in villian shove after flop"

i got a bigger monitor, hoped that would help some so i could play 6-8 games but its not worked out that way

Chris,

No reason to not use rakebackpros.

As for multitabling, to each their own. What works for some doesn't work for others. Since I only play 11+1 turbo 18 men sngs my bet timing might not be as pertinent. What stakes are you playing? I think cash is a lot easier to multitable. I find when I play more than 7 sng's i run into the problem of being down to the end of the tourney in too many at the same time. I used to 12-16 table 50NL by short stacking, but couldn't stand the variance and the swings, and it was a lot easier to stay in control. Try looking into programs that help fold hands and activate time banks for you. Might help out a bit. Good luck at the tables!

At one point I was grinding 8-10 $22's on PS. Robotic ABC poker for the most part but I have push/fold down pretty much down to the T so I saw a profit. Nothing extravagant but enough to pad a substantial roll.

I would stick with tourniments. If I were you I would invest that 500 into 20 20+2 tourniments. At the end of the 20 tournies check your stats and winnings. You should be good.
